Road Test Review: Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS

Triumph joined the super-league, super naked race in 2021 with the Speed Triple 1200 RS. Compared to the 1050cc Speed Triple it replaced, the bigger-engined 1160cc 178bhp triple had the kind of power, electronics, suspension and brakes that would finally let it compete with super naked royalty - wild machines like the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory, Ducati Streetfighter V4 S, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R of the day and the sadly missed Yamaha MT-10SP. For its 2026 update, power is up to 181bhp, torque rises to 94.5lb-ft (made 250rpm lower in the revs at 8750rpm), the exhaust is 150 grams lighter and the crankshaft has been balanced. Mechanically-adjustable Ohlins makes way for the latest Ohlins Smart EC3 Technology semi-active suspension and the electronics, including its new lift control (which Triumph says will give you a 60cm wheelie in level 4), are refined. It gets lighter new wheels, bars are 7mm higher and 10mm wider each side, but elsewhere it’s largely unchanged. In this video I see how the Speed Triple 1200 RS has evolved and take it to an airstrip to see if its new lift control system can turn you into a wheelie god. Enjoy!
